Description
My first attempt at a red line for Improvement-Club, of 's self-portrait.
I've never done this before so I hope it's alright! I'm probably the wrong person to volunteer to fix hands though - I'm sorry! I'm also sorry if this looks nothing like you - especially the hair I went with in the end.
I;m seriously sorry I really am useless with hands. The only way I manage is by constantly referencing all day every day.
The big thing with the hair is that it needed depth and volume I think. Putting hair over the shoulder helps with the depth, as does making it "bigger", so it's not just sitting directly on the skull.
In terms of shading, adding a lighter shade helps, but only if you know where to put it. I'm no expert, but I find shading clothes with folds easier than shading clothes without - it's a relatively easy cue that the figure is 3D. Personally I find cel shading over flat areas (like the stomach of my version, and the chest of your version) looks harsh, but that's clearly an individual thing. I wasn't sure where your light source was - I think it was directly above, by the look of the upper half, but the way the legs were shaded, it was a bit awkward for me.
I hope this can be sort of helpful!
