Description

This month I joined a challenge at Improvement-Club where you were assigned another artist, and had to draw a piece inspired by one of theirs. I was assigned :iconomnisciency:. After quite an internal struggle about whether to draw something piratey, or something with a lovely night sky - I was eventually intrigued by this piece --> fav.me/d8j1mvg.

The scene reminded me of my own two OCs who are also wont to flirt with death threats and big knives. Although, being functionally immortal, these two tend to go a bit further than just threats. Especially Willow. The two versions of this piece (uncoloured here --> fav.me/d8iwhos) inspired me to try working in greyscale again and to mess (awfully) with screen tones. I also took a page out of one of my friend's art handbook and tried varying my pen pressure more. I still need to work at that. A lot.

Even though I chickened out of drawing a more complicated perspective than profile, it was a great chance to mess around with anatomy. Willow's tiny, bony butt looks a lot more tiny and bony in comparison to River's massive arms and thighs haha. In my defense, I was people watching at college the other night and there is real life inspiration for her narrow hips. Maybe it's a bit weird, but I'm very proud of everyone's feet. Dripping blood should also not be this much fun to draw. And yet.

This was a really fun challenge. I'm glad I signed up - it was a great way to relax after a stressful week, and quite an artistic challenge (for me), despite ultimately looking quite simple QuQ

Thanks for the screen tones!

The use of grayscale + the spots of color for the blood and blush - really make this piece. I enjoyed reading about the inspiration and process in the comment section too. Great job on the challenge! :highfive:
